Congratulations to Coldagh Barry, a 6th year student in the school, who completed the Arranmore to Malin Head challenge on horseback at the weekend. She undertook the challenge to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland. Clodagh has been selected to represent Ireland later this year.

The Leaving Cert Applied students in both 5th and 6th year will visit Solas this week for a presentation on what courses they have on offer. They will also visit the boardroom and hear from current participants about their experiences of the courses on offer.

Our TY students are once again involved in the Junk Kouture competition and the school would urge everyone, including students and parents to get voting for Deele’s students. You can vote for our students by logging onto Facebook and searching Junk Kouture. Voting will cease on Friday the 7th of March.

Day in SOLAS Training Centre

LCA Students visited the SOLAS (previously Fás) Training Centre in Letterkenny, on Wednesday the 26th of March.  The visit began with a Presentation in the Board Room given by SOLAS  Senior Recruitment Officer, Chris Magee.   Chris  gave information on Standard Based Apprenticeship, Craft Occupation, Traineships, ecollege Internet Programmes and Weekly Training Allowances.

Good Luck Clodagh from all at Deele College

Parents Cookery 26th February

Ingredients for Chicken and Bacon Pie for Wed. 26th February, 2014

 (To fit 8” X 8” casserole dish)

4 chicken fillets
6 slices streaky bacon
1 pkt button mushrooms
1 onion
1 egg
Nutmeg
Dijon mustard
1 leek
2 cloves garlic
1 tub double cream
1 glass white wine
½ pint of chicken stock
2oz flour
Dill – teaspoon
Thyme- teaspoon
1 bay leaf
*Class will be in ROOM 25 – off the Sportshall

Ulster Cross Country

Brian McNamee, a second year student in Deele College in Raphoe has been selected to represent Ulster in the All-Ireland Schools’ Cross Country in Cork.

Normally known for his boxing prowess, the Convoy youngster showed great ability in the athletics field with an impressive sixth place finish in the recent Ulster School’s Cross Country in Belfast. With 120 participants in the event, Brian showed his class with a strong run, leading the field for quite a distance.

Deele College Notes 14-2-2014

The mock examinations continued for our Junior and Leaving Certificate students in the school gymnasium. The final exams were held on Thursday and students will have a well earned break next as the school will be closed for mid term break.

Sixty of our students and ten teachers will depart the school on Thursday for the annual school tour. Their destination this year is Rome, where they will visit historic sites, such as The Vatican and Pompeii.

Our LCVP students were out of school this week, completing their work experience for their LCVP programme. This allows students to get an idea of what careers they may wish to follow when they leave school.
