smilyguyreadingnewspaperThe school hosted two very successful parent evenings this week on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, where parents got the chance to discuss students’ progress in various subjects.

Deele College was privileged to welcome Mr Jason Black to the school on Friday, where he talked to students about his epic adventure, which brought him to the summit of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Jason, a prominent businessman in the county had a lot of advice and guidance for our students in terms of motivation and following your dreams. Being the first Donegal man to complete the daunting task of climbing the deadly mountain, Jason had students enthralled with his tales of exploration.

Everest hero to visit Deele College

Deele College will welcome Jason Black to the school this Friday, where he will give a talk to the senior students about motivation and following dreams.

Mr Black, who last year became the first Donegal person to scale the heights of the daunting Mount Everest, will talk to students about his epic adventure and how he managed to summit the world’s highest peak.
A prominent businessman in Letterkenny, Jason is an ideal role model for students, as he not only runs a successful business empire, incorporating Voodoo nightclub and Black’s Centra, he is also known in sporting circles for his time with Letterkenny Rugby Club.

Deele College Notes 24-1-2014

smilyguyreadingtabletOur TY students attended a very interesting talk on Tuesday at the LYIT, where they were briefed on the courses that are on offer in the Institute. This was a great experience for the students and gives them the opportunity to think about their future careers, before they decide on what subjects to pick for the Leaving Cert.

Our first year girls’ team had an excellent win over Loreto, Milford last week, winning by two goals to nil. The U-15 girls’ soccer team also beat Loreto, Milford this week, with a comprehensive victory, winning by seven goals to nil, while our boys’ team went out of the Ulster Cup on Friday last, losing 2-0 in Monaghan.
The first and second year students were given a talk on study skills and motivation on Wednesday morning, where they were shown the best techniques for studying for exams.

New Attendance League

Deele College has started a new initiative to encourage and reward attendance
Points are earned each week for each group on percentage of attendance.
First year Class groups will compete against each other for the highest number of points
The best group will be rewarded at the end of each term with a class trip. There will also be a reward for the most improved class group.

First, Second, Fifth & TY Parent Teacher Meetings

Our Parent/Teacher meetings for  Transition  and Fifth Years will take place on Tuesday, 28th January 2014 in the Sports hall.  On Wednesday, 29th January the First & Second year Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place.

On both days pupils will be free from classes at 3.30pm. (buses at normal times) and meetings will take place from  4:15– 6:45pm.

Deele College Notes 17-1-2014

Our third year students took part in a Study Skills Workshop on Thursday, where they were given advice on study timetables and different techniques for studying. This will be a great help to the students as they prepare for their Junior Cert exams.

Dylan Downey, a 6th year student here in the school attended a very important meeting during the week in Sligo, where he represented the Loft Youth Project at a conference entitled, “Cycle against Suicide”. This was a great honour for both Dylan and the school and it is great to see young people like Dylan being proactive in an issue that is so prominent in today’s society.
