On a muddy wet day in Deele College the 1st year boys lined out against St Columba’s. The starting line-up were: Connor Friel, Robbie O Donnell, CJ Clarke, Kyron Coyle, Gavin Magee, Bradley Doherty, Anton Murtagh, Jack O Donnell, Luke Toland, Zack Tinney and Corey Mc Bride.
The first half was all one way with St Columba’s proving to be the more dominate team with 70% of the possession and scored within 10 minutes with a lightning free kick finished off with a header. 10 minutes later another cross from a corner led to a second goal.
In the 2nd half Jack O Donnell led the team in an inspirational effort that uplifted the team and were shortly rewarded with a right footed volley from Oisin Bonner into the top corner. CJ Clarke and Calvin Holmes let nothing through at the back with the mid field now working as a unit. The persistence of the likes of Luke Toland, Gavin Magee, Bradley Doherty and Adam Murphy led to an attack that pressurised St Columba’s into fouling Jack O Donnell inside the box. Jack powered the ball into the net to bring the game all square.
The game was in Deele College’s control and the lads were very unlucky not to go 3-2 ahead in the dying minutes. The final score was 2-2 and a well-deserved draw from an inspiring second half performance. Well done boys. Next game Deele College vs Abbey Voc. School. (Date TBC).
