Mock Exams: This week was the final week of term, with Junior and Leaving Cert students finishing up their mock examinations before a hard-earned week off. The students will now turn their attentions towards practical and oral examinations, which will begin in the coming weeks.

Parents’ Evening: The school hosted two very successful Parents’ Evenings this week, with parents of students in 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th Year given the opportunity to discuss the progress of the students during the academic year. There was a large turnout and the school would like to thank all parents who attended over the course of the two nights.

School Business:

The school began its Christmas exams this week, with 1st, 2nd and 5th years undertaking their first set of school examinations for the year. Third and sixth year students continued with class, as they prepare for their mock examinations, which will be held in February.

Soccer: 1st year girls: Congratulations to the first year futsal team who finished in second place in the annual futsal competition organised by the FAI. The girls played four games and only lost one, resulting in a silver medal for the girls, who were only beaten on goal difference.

Soccer: It was a mixed week for the school on the soccer front, with the school playing Royal and Prior in both the senior and U-17 age groups.

The seniors suffered defeat, in an unexpected 2-1 loss away from home. Phillip Doran was the goal scorer. The boys, who are the current Ulster champions will be disappointed with the defeat, but they will be looking to bounce back in their next game against Crana College.

Soccer:

It has been a successful fortnight for the school in terms of soccer, with the U-17 and U-15 teams both recording wins. The U-15 team had a good win over the Royal and Prior, with a score-line of 2-1, while the U-17 team had an impressive 8-1 victory away to Crana College.

The school year is now in full swing at Deele College, with a busy week at the school, with Junior cert results, retirements and first year outings.

The school hosted its annual ecumenical service on Thursday evening for sixth year students and their parents in the school sports hall. The service was conducted by members of the clergy from different denominations. The service was, as usual, a great success with a large turnout. The students were given valuable advice by the speakers and the overall message of the evening was ‘never ever give up.’

It was a busy week for exam students this week in the school with the engineering and woodwork practical exams taking place throughout the week. Both exams went well and it will give students extra confidence going into the Leaving Cert.
