50th Celebrations: This week was a proud week for the school, with the celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary. The celebrations began with a school show in the sports-hall, which was attended by students and teachers, both past and present. There were some brilliant performances on the night and it was a fitting opening ceremony for the highly anticipated anniversary celebrations. Well done to all who took part in the event.

Soccer: There was disappointment for the senior soccer team this week as they were defeated in the All-Ireland semi-final on penalties. Playing against noted Galway school ‘The Bish’, the lads played out of their skin to take the lead through Simon McGlynn, but a penalty late in the game levelled proceedings. The game went to extra-time and penalties, where they were denied in ‘sudden death’. This was a cruel end to what has been a phenomenal year for Mr Gallagher and his team.

Parent Evenings: The school hosted two very successful parent evenings this week, for parents of students in 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th year. A large crowd attended both evenings and these offer a chance for parents to discuss the progress of their children with their respective teachers. The school would like to thank all of the parents who attended over the course of the two evenings.

School Visits: The Transition Year students had an interesting talk from the team from Donegal Creameries on Monday, where they got to see the inner workings of the business and gained tips on getting jobs and doing interviews. The school has a long and proud association with the company and it is a real asset to students in Transition Year.

Congratulations to Mr Hogan and the Deele College Drama Group, who won an award for acting at the ‘Youth Drama Festival’ in the Balor Theatre in Ballybofey on Thursday night. The group performed a sketch on the night and were commended for their acting, with 6th year student Ciaran McBrearty being singled out for special praise. This is a fantastic achievement and is recognition for the hard work the students have put in over the past few weeks.
