It was the end of an era in Deele College last Friday, when the staff and students of the school said farewell to Principal, Mr PJ McGowan. Mr McGowan, who has been at the school since 1984, became the principal in 2000 and has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the school and the Raphoe community. Various speakers were on hand at Friday’s ceremony to pay testament to the work, which PJ has done in his time at the school. While it was an emotional day for all concerned, it was a celebration of a long and distinguished career, which will be remembered for years to come here at Deele College.

The school hosted a very well attended ecumenical service on Tuesday evening for parents and students who are undertaking the Leaving Cert. Conducted by Father McGettigan and Reverend Wilson, the service was a send off for students who will be shortly leaving the school. There were songs, prayers and speeches, all performed by sixth year students, who had a very enjoyable night together as a school community. This was an emotional evening for the students, who are now ending a journey that has taken six years. We would like to wish them all the very best in their exams and their future careers.

Our 6th year students were given the opportunity to attend a very enlightening talk this week on depression given by AWARE. The title of the talk was ‘Beat the Blues’ and it was aimed at our senior students who are currently studying for the Leaving Cert. The school would like to thank the speakers from the group for taking the time to come to the school and we feel that the students really benefitted from the talk, especially in the lead up to the exams.
