School Show: This week was a proud week for the school, with the celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary. The celebrations began with a school show in the sports-hall, which was attended by students and teachers, both past and present. There were some brilliant performances on the night and it was a fitting opening ceremony for the highly anticipated anniversary celebrations. Well done to all who took part in the event.
Thomas Meagher Foundation: As part of the Thomas Meagher foundation, Ms Roulston and Ms Ryan, along with members of the student body went to Waterford to collect a national flag on behalf of the school. The flag was presented to the group by President Michael D Higgins and is now on display in the school grounds.
Ecumenical service: The school hosted an ecumenical service on Friday afternoon, for members of the school community. This service was held to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary and among the invited guests was The Most Reverend Bishop Philip Boyce, along with other clergy from the denominations represented in the school. This service was preceded by a blessing of the Garden of Remembrance. The garden itself was looking majestic, thanks to the great work of the sixth year LCA students.
Open Day: Deele College remained open on Saturday last for past students and teachers to take a walk down memory lane. The school had various displays and old pictures and memorabilia in the school and a large crowd attended the event. On the soccer field, stars of the past dusted down their boots and show cased their skills in a challenge game between past students.
Gala Ball: The Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny was the venue for the main event of the 50th celebrations. Teachers and students from down through the years all gathered to reminisce on days gone by, while they danced the night away to the sound of ‘The Beef-Steak-Dancers’.
5K: The celebrations culminated in a 5k Race/Walk on Sunday morning, with a large crowd in attendance for the event. The race was won by Ciaran Mc Ilhinney in a great time of 17:45.
