The school year is now in full swing at Deele College, with a busy week at the school, with Junior cert results, retirements and first year outings.
After thirty years of dedicated service to the school, maths teacher and head of special needs, Ann Roulstone retired from teaching on Friday afternoon. A special presentation was made to Anne by staff and students, who wanted to mark her loyal service over the past three decades. Everyone here at Deele College would like to wish her all the best in her retirement.
On Wednesday afternoon, in the school sports-hall, Mr Boyle had the honour of presenting this year’s Junior Cert results to the school’s students. There were nerves aplenty, as they waited to see the much anticipated piece of paper, but there were smiles all round with students very happy with their results. We would like to congratulate all of the students and their families on their results, which indicate the hard work carried out over the past three years.
Thursday afternoon was the first outing of the year for our new first years, who went to the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny to take part in a sports day. The students were accompanied by TY students and various teachers from the school and it was a great opportunity for the first years to make new friends outside the classroom environment.
The staff and management of the school would like to congratulate fifth year student, Brett McGinty on his brilliant achievement of capturing a silver medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa. Brett, who has previously won a European bronze medal in Russia will be disappointed not to be bringing back gold, but it is a huge step for the St Johnston lad and he continues to represent the school in a very positive manner.
Well done to Rory Brogan, a second year student in the school, who was the winner of two tickets to the Republic of Ireland game versus Georgia on Monday night. Rory won the tickets, as part of his role in his class’s video for ‘Show Racism the Red Card.’ With a 1-0 win on the night, Rory was delighted with his prize and was accompanied on the trip by his brother.
Work is currently continuing at the school, in preparation for the opening of the extension in January, which will see the addition of a state of the art wing, which will include classrooms, computer rooms and practical rooms. The current building received an infrastructural upgrade over the summer and with the new extension due to open soon, Deele College will be able to deliver top class education in a state of the art building.
