Soccer: It was a mixed week for the school on the soccer front, with the school playing Royal and Prior in both the senior and U-17 age groups.

The seniors suffered defeat, in an unexpected 2-1 loss away from home. Phillip Doran was the goal scorer. The boys, who are the current Ulster champions will be disappointed with the defeat, but they will be looking to bounce back in their next game against Crana College.

The U-17 team had an enthralling win, with a score line of four goals to three. Goals from Alex Carolan, Michael Devine, Ethan Coll and Dylan Brolly sealed the win for the lads, which sees them top the group and into the league semi-final and the cup quarter final. Last year’s losing Ulster finalists, the boys will be hoping to go one step further this year.

GAA: The U-16 team travelled to Buncrana on Wednesday, where they were defeated by Crana College. This was the first game for the team and they will be hoping to get a win in their next outing.

The U-14 team had a great win over Magh Ene, Bundoran on Friday afternoon. This was the boys’ first win and they will be looking to build on this victory in the coming weeks.

Jordan Boyce: A big congratulations to Jordan Boyce, a fifth year student in the school who has qualified for the BDO World Youth Championship Final in Lakeside next year, after six straight wins in the darts qualifiers in Hull this week. Jordan, who is a member of the senior and U-17 soccer teams, is a brilliant darts player and will now get the opportunity to showcase his skills on BBC in January in a final against an English opponent. Well done to Jordan from all the staff and students at the school.

Careers: The fifth year students from the school had a presentation given by Sligo IT on Wednesday on courses that are offered at the college. With a lot of students going to Sligo over the past few years, it is great to get first-hand knowledge of the college and the courses they offer.

Fireworks Safety: The school welcomed members of the local Garda Station to the school during the week to talk about the dangers of fireworks coming up to the Halloween break. The students were shown images about the dangers of fireworks and told that they are now illegal in Ireland.

Pope John Paul II Awards: Congratulations to all of the students from the school who received their ‘Pope John Paul II’ awards during the week. Students who took part in this award have worked in their communities over the past year volunteering and helping others. This is a great achievement for the students and will look very well in their CVs in the years ahead.

Gartan: Classes from both TY and LCA had a great time in Gartan last week, where they got to partake in different activities in the outdoor centre.

Facebook: The school has set up a Facebook page with all the latest news and announcements from the school. Check out the page and ‘like’ it for the latest news from Deele College.
