Soccer: 1st year girls: Congratulations to the first year futsal team who finished in second place in the annual futsal competition organised by the FAI. The girls played four games and only lost one, resulting in a silver medal for the girls, who were only beaten on goal difference.

Boys’ U-17: The boys’ U-17 team suffered defeat in the league semi-final against Abbey V.S. of Donegal Town. The boys were beaten 5-4 in an enthralling match, with Alex Carolan getting all four goals. The boys, while out of the league, are through to the quarter final of the Ulster Cup, which will take place in the coming months.

Girls’ U-17: The U-17 girls’ team had a good win over Glenties Comprehensive on Monday last and showed that they will be contenders in this age group.

Senior girls: The girls were beaten 3-1 by Moville Community College last Friday. Tyler Toland found the net from the penalty spot and they will be looking to bounce back in the next game.

Ireland v Bosnia: Sixty lucky students from the school were given the opportunity to attend the international play-off between Ireland and Bosnia on Monday night, where the boys in green booked their place in Euro 2016. A great time was had by all and it was great that our students were there for such a historical night for Irish soccer.

GAA: Senior Boys: The senior boys had a great win over Scoil Mhuire Buncrana last week, which sees them through to the knockout stages of the championship. Crucial goals from Simon McGlynn and a strong performance from Brett McGinty were key to the side’s win.

The boys followed this up with a fantastic win over Crana College on a score line of 2-11 to 1-04, which sees them through to the quarter final of the competition where they will play Colaiste Ailigh.

Open Day/Night:The school hosted a very successful open day on Tuesday, where prospective students from local primary schools came to Deele College to sample life in the school. They were shown the building and the new extension, while also taking part in classes, which are offered by the school. Over 200 students arrived on the day and it is testament to the great work that is ongoing at the school.

Parents and guardians of prospective students were given the opportunity to take a tour of the school and meet staff on Wednesday evening, as the school hosted its annual open night. A large crowd were in attendance and they were addressed by the school principal, Mr Joe Boyle, who outlined the various facets of life within the college.

Shoe-Box Appeal:A big thank you to all our students who took part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Families from the school were extremely generous and the school was able to send 115 boxes, which means that the school community will have touched the lives of 115 children who would otherwise have no presents on Christmas Day.

Swimming:

The first year swimming programme is now in full swing with all first years taking part in swimming lessons, with the aim that all students will be able to swim by the end of the programme.

Facebook:

The school has set up a Facebook page for parents and students, which will be used in conjunction with the school website and school app to keep parents and students informed of news and developments within the school.

Transition Year

Donegal Investment Group: Once again, the school’s TY students will be working in conjunction with the Donegal Investment Group. The company will provide assistance with interview skills and creating CVs. This programme, which is called Schools’ Business Partnership has been hugely successful throughout the years and it is a tremendous asset for the students, who will benefit greatly from the knowledge they will gain as part of this programme.

TY Build-a-Bank: It is that time of year again, where the school will unveil its latest bank, to take part in the prestigious AIB Build-a-Bank Programme. The team have been selected and are working hard on innovative and creative ideas.
