School Business:

The school began its Christmas exams this week, with 1st, 2nd and 5th years undertaking their first set of school examinations for the year. Third and sixth year students continued with class, as they prepare for their mock examinations, which will be held in February.

The school hosted a very productive in-service on Friday for all teachers in the school, which was based on the new Junior Cycle reforms, which have begun and will be implemented in the next few years. Students at the school are already undertaking the new English syllabus and other subjects will be added in the coming years.

The first of the parent-teacher meetings will take place this week in the school for parents of exam students in third and sixth year. This is a great opportunity for parents and guardians to discuss the performance of students, as they prepare for state exams.

Transition Year:

The Transition Year students took part in a an initiative last week with ‘Customer Service Ireland,’ which will provide the students with knowledge on how to treat customers in the workplace and this course will be a great asset to the students in terms of building up their CVs and experience.

GAA:

Our senior boys’ team were very unlucky in their semi-final against Colaiste Ailigh this week, going down by four points against the Letterkenny side.

Soccer:

Our first year soccer team were defeated last week against a very strong St Columba’s team, while the U-17 girls’ team continued their fine form, with another comprehensive win over Loreto Convent, Letterkenny.

Swimming:

The swimming programme for first years continues, with all first years going to Strabane every Thursday in an effort to ensure that all students in the year are able to swim and conscious of water safety.

Careers:

Our students took part in a very informative day at the LYIT where they were shown the benefits of studying STEM subjects, which are science, technology, maths and engineering. This was a worthwhile initiative, as it gives the student something to consider, when picking their choice of third level subjects.

Book Launch:

The school would like to congratulate former student and member of the parents’ committee, Liam Porter on the launch of his new book, which contains poetry that he has written over the past number of years. Liam has been an integral part of the school community in recent years, taking part in ‘Strictly’ and also playing a leading role in the 50th anniversary celebrations.
