Students from 5th  year and Transition Year from Deele College attended a spectacular event in Lisburn this week to take part in the ‘Amazing Space’ youth led peace event at the Eikon Exhibition centre.

With almost 4,000 students in attendance, it was a great day out for the students and the event, which urges young people to be a voice for peace on International Peace Day, is an important one.

Last year, while Junior Cert students in the school, classes 3N, 3C and 3R composed a ‘Peace Pledge,’ which was one of over four hundred pledges that were made across the island of Ireland. Deele College carried out this project in co-operation with The Royal Prior School, which is also located in Raphoe.

The students from both Deele College and The Royal and Prior put in a huge amount of work last year and their endeavours were rewarded yesterday, with some of their work being displayed on the large screens in the auditorium.

School principal, Mr Joe Boyle said that he would like to congratulate all of the students from both schools and in particular the two teachers who organised the pledge.

“The students put so much work into the project last year and it was great to see both schools working together, especially on a topic such as peace. It is projects like these that help students get a better understanding of the world and allow students to learn beyond the four walls of the classroom. I would like to congratulate all the students for their hard work and I would like to thank Ms. Fiona Creagh, who organised the project here at Deele College and her counterpart in The Royal and Prior, Mr Pat Shallow.”
